Description

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) provides transit, roadway, and mobility services across the Reno–Sparks region. To support these services, RTC needed a modern website that could integrate third-party systems, support diverse transportation programs, and remain fully accessible to the public.

Clarity partnered with RTC Washoe to redesign its primary website on WordPress, delivering a responsive, ADA-compliant platform with intuitive navigation, scalable integrations, and flexible content tools that allow RTC staff to manage and evolve the site with confidence.

1 | Website Redesign and Platform Modernization
-----------------------------------------------

RTC Washoe required a modern digital platform capable of supporting a broad range of transportation services, programs, and public information. Clarity redesigned the website on WordPress and implemented a responsive framework optimized for both desktop and mobile users. The updated design emphasizes clear navigation, improved searchability, and streamlined pathways to essential transit information.

The redesign also focused on restructuring the site’s information architecture. By analyzing historical traffic data and high-value pages, Clarity preserved critical user pathways while expanding the site’s ability to present complex transportation content in a clear, approachable way.

### Key Outcomes & Expertise

- Responsive website redesign optimized for transit riders and community users.
- Information architecture refined using historical site usage data.
- Improved navigation and content structure across high-traffic sections.
- Modern WordPress platform hosted securely on WP Engine.

2 | Flexible Content Management and Component-Based Authoring
-------------------------------------------------------------

RTC needed a content management experience that allowed staff across the organization to manage information efficiently without sacrificing design consistency. Clarity implemented a component-based authoring system that allows editors to build pages using structured content blocks that remain visually consistent with the site’s design system.

This flexible authoring approach provides visual layout options while ensuring the website stays on brand. Segmented content types were also introduced to support different author roles and workflows without fragmenting information or creating silos within the user experience.

### Key Outcomes & Expertise

- Component-based authoring tools that simplify content entry.
- Visual style options that maintain brand consistency.
- Segmented content types aligned to author roles and workflows.
- Improved editorial efficiency while preserving a unified user experience.

3 | Accessibility and Inclusive Design
--------------------------------------

Accessibility was a central requirement for the RTC website, which must serve a wide range of users including riders with disabilities and individuals accessing transit information on mobile devices. Clarity implemented accessibility best practices throughout the design and development process to ensure the website supports ADA compliance and inclusive digital access.

The content authoring interface also encourages accessibility compliance by guiding editors to follow proper content structure and accessibility practices during publishing. This approach supports long-term accessibility maintenance as new content is added.

### Key Accessibility Outcomes

- Delivered an ADA-compliant website experience.
- Implemented accessibility best practices across design and development.
- Content authoring interface encourages ongoing accessibility compliance.
- Inclusive design approach supporting diverse rider needs.

4 | Integration and Scalable Infrastructure
-------------------------------------------

RTC’s website needed to connect with a variety of third-party systems that support transit services and public information. Clarity simplified and improved the site’s integration points to support scalable connections with these external platforms while maintaining site performance and reliability.

The website is hosted on WP Engine, providing a secure and scalable infrastructure that supports RTC’s ongoing digital operations. This modern hosting environment allows the site to grow alongside RTC’s evolving mobility services.

### Key Integration Outcomes

- Improved and simplified third-party system integrations.
- Secure WordPress hosting on WP Engine.
- Scalable platform designed to support evolving transit services.
- Reliable infrastructure supporting high-traffic public information.
